OK got the car, now to book shipping across the county.
Any companies to stay away from?
Which ones seem the best?
I know when shipping horses, there are companies to stay away from, so was wondering if that is the same with car transports.

As for shippers, I wish I could remember the shipper I used to ship my 62 EType a few years ago. I can tell you that you will want to get a shipper who specializes in shipping classic cars and uses covered transport! Shipping mine from Virginia to New Mexico was around $900. Maybe someone else can jump in here with a specific recommendation.

I’ve never had a vehicle shipped so I can’t relate any first hand experience. I’d recently read about a couple of bad experiences but when I went back and looked around the boards I frequent I couldn’t find the references, Sorry.

They may be pricey (maybe not, I haven’t checked) but Fedex has two divisions that ship cars:

I wasn't fond of the company that shipped my car from New Mexico to California. I have two invoices. One says Car Auto Carrier based out of Ft. Worth and the other says Auction Transport Inc. based out of Missouri. They had the car here in Los Angeles in a holding yard for two weeks without delivering it or telling me where it was.

Other than that, I haven't heard many horror stories so I can't help on who to stay away from.

www.hemmings.com has lots of shipping companies. You may also want to try a few Jaguar mailing lists and club websites to see if anyone has a trailer going the direction you are going.

I seem to recall that the going rate was in the neighborhood of .60 to .80 cents per mile. But don't hold me to that.

Lastly, do you want a covered transport or open? Covered costs more. If you get an open double deck trailer, make sure they put your car on top so that oil from another car doesn't drip down onto yours. Especially critical if you have a convertible. If oil gets on the convertible top or interior, it will never come out.

I just ran across an old email in which I was discussing shipping of the 62 EType I bought a few years ago. The company I used was called "Year Round". You might find them on the web, or call the 1-800 operator and see if they have a listing. I think they were based on the east coast somewhere (maybe Georgia?) Anyway, I was very happy with their service.

I've used Intercity Lines three times for cross country deliveries and have been very pleased with their services. Superb trucks with great care and attention given to their cargo. They handle most of the big auctions.

I called Intercity, and they didn't think they would have a truck come up to the PNW until sometime next month.

So I called Passport, and since they are based in St Louis, very close to our new Jaguar, I went with Passport.
