I've used two companies I would recommend...

Reliable Transport has moved two cars for me. One from Atlanta and one from Alabama, both to Los Angeles. Both cars arrived ahead of schedule and were delivered by husband / wife teams who were car nuts. Great attention was paid to the safety and well-being of the cars during transport and unloading.

The other outfit was TFX International. They were very friendly and the driver was a great guy. The car did arrive a day late but it wasn't their fault. Seems the delivery before me said there was room to turn the truck around, but when the driver got there it was a very narow road. So he had to back the truck down a twisty mountain road..... for 20 miles!! He got extra points for calling my MG YB "the cat's meow".

Another company I've heard spoken highly of is Horseless Carriage. They specialize in collector and exotic cars. I have no personal experience with them though.

When you choose a transport company, be sure to avoid brokers. They are just a middle man, so you pay more for transport and you don't even know who is actually moving the car for you. Ask if they own their own trucks, and ask if it is enclosed or open trailer. Open is cheaper but will not protect the car from weather, rock chips, etc.

Hope this helps!

thanks for the info,

this car is a pile , just an expensive enough pile that I do not want it on an open carrier

I know when it gets here they are going to have to sweep the floor under it , and throw half the car back in /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

so a cheaper enclosed trailer is ok ....

After my experience with a corporate relocation several years ago, I've made it my mission to steer as many people away from DAS - Dependable Auto Shippers - as possible.

I've heard good things about the shippers that Steve has recommended.

DAS has been trouble with a couple of my freinds too,

pity as their depot is only 5 miles away

You can't go wrong with Reliable. We have a "Corporate" Ford GT at work, and when it gets shipped anywhere, it goes by Reliable.

well the car got here ,
it was $1750 enclosed , close to 3000 miles
I thought expensive but I did not have time to shop anymore as it needed to get out of the shop,
took 10 days to get here,

no problems really

any ideas on a cheap NOT-enclosed shipper from St Louis to Los Angeles area ?

OK.....I have a couple more body shells outside of Boston that need to get out to California, pretty light weigh as they do not have running gear in them ,

Anyone coming this way ?

Anyone

Well I will start this up again,

Anyone have a contact to ship a big crate of car body parts from near Boston to the Los Angeles area ?

anyone have an account with Forward Air ?

the skid is 11 foot long , 56 inches wide and 84 inches tall,
weight is about 1200 pounds,

I need to get this stuff out here to pay for my tetanus shots /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

thanks for your help

I have used DAS on 6 cars shipping from both coasts to the midwest with GREAT service. I've had delivered to residence, met at specified locations and picked up at terminal. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I hope not.
I have a 2003 Eclipse enroute as we speak from NJ as a present for my sons HS gradutaion. Good Luck!
