Does anyone know of a way to ship a car from South London to NY and about how much it would cost to get a Mini here?

Too bad they don't float like Volkswagon used to advertise!

I read somewhere that it would cost in the region of about $1K, give or take a few depending on the exchange rate. Should be straightforward enough from London to the Port of New York, I would imagine. Would to do the roll-on/roll-off, or ship it in a container?

I'd say container.

Containers are great...but they have their pitfalls...I had a friend ship his TR3 and TR4 back to Europe when he relocated....the cars were conatinerized along with his household items.

One of the cars either broke loose...or was never lashed down corectly to begin with....and trashed EVERYTHING in the container by thrashing about.

A friend of mine bought a classic mini a few years ago from Downton Engineering. It cost him about $1500 to be shipped from England to Colorado via Baltimore. Exchange rate has gotten worse but you don't have to ship it another 2000 miles after it reaches the east coast either. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

It's a $650 car but kept in a garage. At this point I am unsure of what the rust situation is on it and whether it is worth it for me to pursue . If it were cheaper and easier to get, I'd take it on.

Right now it may turn into how to help this guy sell his car and have it brought over here.

Brings to mind a container story. Fellow bought
a brand new Corvette. Had it stolen soon thereafter
with very, very few miles driven.

Car was placed into a container by crooks to ship
out of country. Something went wrong for them. Car
remained in container unclaimed for many, many years.
Finally was discovered in container and returned to
original owner worth way, way....wayyy more than he
bought it for new.

I like happy endings.
