Ship an E-Type

Just bought an E-Type and need to have it shipped across the country. Has anyone had a positive experience with any of the shipping companies? Apparently there are a lot of horror stories out there and a lot of fly-by-night operators in that business.

Bob:

The last company that I used (8 mo's ago) was The Horseless Carriage, they were very good.

Please tell us more about the E type.

You will be fine...had my Healey picked up by a one man outfit from the east coast to Ohio cost me a grand.

I need to get it from one of the ocean ports in CA, like Long Beach, to Virginia. It's a FHC coming from Hawaii, and I need to get it the rest of the way.

I had good luck with FedEx/Passport. You can get a quote online. Also excellent experience with Hog Haulers out of Portland Oregon.

After getting lots of quotes and doing research, I've contracted Thomas C. Sunday, Inc. out of Pennsylvania to do the transport. They came highly recommended by someone I know that ships cars, they are a family owned business, only positive comments were on the transport comment websites, they are NOT a broker but own their own trucks and employ their own drivers, their equipment is all enclosed and appears first rate and their price was in line with others, so far their response has been excellent. I'll post a review of their performance once the car is transported.

How did your experience with them turn out?

Passport is the oldest carrier in the USA. Started by Bob Pass an rather large collector of classis motors. I believe that Reliable is the largest. I have used both in the past with excellent results. Pick-up a coppy of Hemmings Motor news and you will find all of the large and small transporters.

Big thumbs up here for Passport. Not the cheapest, but as was said you can rest comfortably. They use a horizontal lift to avoid those extreme angles, and the trailers have solid floors so the the cars overhead don't leak on your ride.

In my case I was very lucky. I wired the seller his money on Thursday and immediately ordered the pick up, based on a quote I had received earlier in the week. As luck would have it they had a truck in the vicinity. They picked it up at 9:30 AM Friday and dropped off at my house at 8:30 that night. 520 mile trip with no stops, except for dinner. My car was off the truck and in my hands in about 10 minutes. It is also cool that you can watch their progress on the internet as the trucks use GPS tracking. Highly recommended.
