TR4/4A shining up thermostat housing

I'm reassembling my TR4 and the thermostat housing looked shoddy so I put it in my tabletop sandblaster. Now its just not as shiny as the other half. It looks like there is some kind of glaze applied to the metal parts. Can someone tell me what I should spray on the housing to bring it back up?

Some castings are such low grade metal that they cannot be polished. I think you found one. Silver paint would likely be the best option. That's what many rebuild shops do with aluminum parts.
 
. Had mine powder coated a silver color. Over ten years ago and still looks great.

That's the ticket. I removed the POs black paint and heavy dirt with a wire wheel and then a Dremel to get into the nooks and then a lot of hand work with metal polish and super fine steel wool. A power buffer after that would really shine it up. I didn't do that, as can be seen in the attached photo. Not show quality but OK by me.

I pulled out an old can of brasso. The housing looks good but still not matching the other half. I'm going to just sandblast the other piece of the housing and brasso it so they match.
 
On my TR 6 I had the same problem polish wet dry 600 sand paper nothing seemed to make it polish up. I bought a new one and it came up bright with polish and buffer wheel. I also have an Alum. valve cover the look matched now. Madflyer

No sir. You can't see it in that photo but there is an arrow on the clear part showing the direction of flow. You want the dirt and debris to be trapped on the outside of the filter media where you can see it.
 
Ultimately I realized I had another in my spares pile so pulled it out and gave it a gentler cleaning up. It still has its shine.
