Shims under 1/4 Elliptical Springs?

I am about the install brand new rear 1/4 springs on my bugeye and wanted to double check that they bolt right in (the spring pan that it will bolt into has just been sandblasted and painted, so its a flat smooth surface). I feel like I read somewhere once that you had to place shims between the the bracket and the spring to ensure the car sits correctly (left and right side)...but am not sure, and can't find any "replacement" shims in Moss or VB...

Am I just dreaming this? Any help, please!

Shims under the rear springs are primarily to lower the car. Some have used them under one side put in backwards to make their car sit level. Otherwise yes the springs just bolt in, i.e., no wedges/shims.
 
I have just installed new ones in mine. They were Moss 10 Leaf (rally) springs. I removed the 3rd leaf from the top to make them softer. A shim was made from 3/16ths Band Iron and placed under the passenger side spring (lowering it by 3/16ths) so that the ride height is close to even when the driver is sitting in the car.
 
wow GB1. So depending on if I am driving solo or with a passenger, the car will sit/ride differently? I know these cars are small and all, but the fact that this is the case is quite unsettling.

BTW, what happens when you have a passenger? The car leans right?
 
yea but just a bit, not really noticeable. Set it up even and all is fine. Unless you are a great big guy.
 
Mine drops just under a 1/4 of an inch with a 140lb person sitting in the car (hence the 3/16th shim\wedge). Remember your will be different since I did soften up the rally springs a bit. If you are unsure measure it before and after. It really isn't necessary because it only has a little effect on the handling and tire traction. I just get a little anal with these things.
