Hello all,
I am just getting my GT^ on the road again. When I drive the car , the transmission shifts fine for about the first 20 minutes of driving, then it starts to get harder to shift into second and third but double clutching does the job, and then it won't shift at all even with a double clutch.
I can still put the clutch in and shift into first when I stop. Any ideas?

Sounds like it might be related to temperature in the gearbox. Have you checked the oil level? If its too low things will overheat fast.

I'm not all that familiar with GT6 yet, but it also sounds like possible hydraulic system problem (master or slave clutch cylinders) *or* clutch adjustment. As the car warms up, things expand and tolerances close up.

You could measure to see how much the slave cyl. shaft moves cold and warmed up, then compare to see if this might be the problem. (On other TRs, there is supposed to be about 5/8" movement minimum.)

Do GT6 have an adjustment on the slave cylinder release shaft?

And, do GT6 use the same dreaded taper pin as other TRs, to hold the clutch release fork in place? If it breaks, there is often just enough play created to cause this sort of problem. Hope not, it means pulling the gearbox to repair.

Andy's oil change/level check suggestion is a good one, too. Old oil that's lost a lot of its lubricating qualities might be part of the problem, too.

Finally, in some Triumphs the wrong type of oil in the gearbox will attack the brass synchros. I'm guessing this might be the case with GT6 gearboxes, too. Check your manual, but I imagine GL4 is specified, *never* GL5 gear oil. (Sulfer compounds in the latter are the problem.) I'm not sure if this would cause the symptoms you're seeing, but it might. Most auto parts stores primarily carry GL5 gear oils now, may have only one or two choices of GL4. So, it's all too easy to get the wrong stuff!

Those are the key things that come to mind.

I am hoping it is lubrication. I had the 2nd gear syncro changed while I was doing the restoration so I assumed the right type and amount of lube was in it.I also put a new release bearing in while the tranny was out. I will check the lube on Monday when I can get the car on a hoist. Thanks for the sugestions.
