Shifter rattle

Have a really bad rattle in shift lever. Posted previously and told to replace the nylon busing on the shift lever. Did that (by the way, does that go around the ball or on the tapered shaft above?) and also the screws and spring washers on the lever plate. Everything just as bad. Noticed in a book that there is also a plunger and spring that is supposed to be there which I found is not. When checking the Moss and Vicky Brit websites I found that I can order three of the necessary parts but that the cap, which I assume holds everything in place, is not available. Can anybody tell me where I can get this or what?

Around the little ball on the end of the shift lever...Moss part number 461-110..is the set screw that holds the shift lever in place tight?

'76 MGB... Set-screw inna KNOB??? That'd make HORRIBLE noises if not snugged.

If the nylon bush is new, the tension on the "plate" and new Thackary washers fitted, knob tight, then if it still "sizzles" there may be some internal problem. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Layshaft & bearings are the likely suspects.

Isn't it scary when Doc & I post at the same time & say about the same thing? hehehe

Ummm.... Nooo, not really. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Do I understand you correctly that the special bolt that holds a spring and plunger keeping pressure on the shifter is what you cannot find?. If this is right, I have made those in the past and may be able to find my drawings to make another. Give me a shout at Gerry@gem-enterprises.net

Way to go, Gerry!

Tony, I did not intend on knock you out of a sale but it looked like he did not contact you. If you need a couple to have on hand, let me know

No -no -no....you are absolutely correct...what he's looking for is different than what I identified......I need to get with you when I get home & place an order of different things for stock anyway.

NLA from Moss. Seems like they would reproduce them but I guess there's not enough demand

He might be away from the computer for the weekend.
