Shifter is working again

When shifting out of reverse, my transmission stuck in the middle and would not engage any gear, running or parked. I finally manipulated the shifter until it engaged back into reverse, then everything worked. This is the second time this event has occurred. I'm kind of snake-bit now because it takes a long time to make things right when it fails. I looked for the reverse lock out plunger and not sure I have it located. Is the reverse lock out on the upper right SIDE of the shifter tower?

I drove about a mile tonight and I tell you... This Midget is the most fun car I've ever driven.

Thanks for all the help, everyone.

Glad the car is working again.
There really isn't an external reverse lockout on these cars (as far as I know)....just an internal "detent" that creates resistance in the reverse fork linkage.
The spring and plunger that screws into the shift tower is just and anti-rattle plunger (#57 and # 58 below).
The ball and socket on your shifter may just be worn and allowing things to go a bit "too far". The "fix" may just involve "learning" the shifter so that you put it in reverse "just enough" (not really a "fix", but the price is right! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif)
Here's a schematic of the trans:

Thanks, Aero...
Hope I never see that problem again.. it's kind of embarassing out there in the street and shifter won't leave neutral... after a couple days manipulating the thing, it finally goes back into reverse and then everything is fine again. I'm sure there is a learning curve.
Thanks very much!
