Shifter boot retaining "ring"

As seen in the longest ebay auction ever posted, is the trim ring around this shifter boot a standard item? I've been looking for something similar...don't see it in the Moss catalog. I like this a lot better than the big metal shifter cover. Pic is below:

Not going to read through that ad again, but from memory I seem to remember it saying that it had a datsun tranny. It definately wasn't a standard transmission, hence the different boot.
I'd suggest you remove the metal housing (it's just some allen key bolts if I remember right), measure the hole underneath and take a wander down the scrap yard.
That said, I think the top of the gearbox may sit slightly proud of the tunnel, hence the metal bulb covering.

That is a shift boot out of a late model Spridget, Moss part # 462-780, but they don't list the metal retaining ring. You should be able to get one from a parts car / ebay.

Thanks guys...yeah, I am not really interested in the boot, I can make one to match the vinyl I covered the interior in. I am just interested in the ring with the 4 screws.

Maybe I'll try to cut up the stock metal one or use it as a template for some sheet metal work.

Surely, somebody on this list has one of those rings kicking around from a parts car. I'll look in my boxes next time I dig through.

I'd really appreciate it Trevor!

OK, I did not find a ring, but I found all the parts for BillM's swaybar, and an extra metal shifter hat.

You might post another thread asking people to look through their junk for one. What about Vince? (vping)

Thanks for looking Trevor, I appreciate it. I'll put up a post. Do you have any clue of what year(s) those were used? Is it for all the 1500 cars?

I was thinking 1970+, but it may go back further. I'll have to dig out my OSM book.

As far as I know, it's not OE on a 1968 - mine came with the big metal cover. I suppose the DPO could have changed it, but most pics I see of '68's show the big cover.

I will almost guarantee that it is on the 1500's, the rib-box trans' need the metal tower.

Nope I think the vinyl shift boot came in with the padded dash. My 1970 has one.

You are correct! The Moss catalog says "1275 from 1972". I never knew that they would fit (a rib-box)at all.
Bill

Got one.

Those rings go under the carpet usually.
Take a peek, it'll be there on a late model Sprite.

Thanks Carl - it's got to be missing on mine...I've had the car totally stripped and it wasn't there. I had 70's brown household carpet in there when I bought it. Darn DPO!

Bugeyes and early spridgts had the metal tower. When doing the rivergate 5 speed conv. the tranny runs straight back(yes, the spridget tranny are slightly offset). This makes the shifter not fit the origianal metal tower. I had been told that it was impossible to do, but my buddy John did the conv. and made the shifter work in the tower. So, it is possible.

Vping -

You have a pm.
