TR6 Shift Lever Position - TR-6

Recently finished installing the HVDA 5 speed conversion. I don't really remember exactly where the shift lever used to be in relation to the radio, but it seems like it's now too far away from the dash (closer to the driver). Has anyone bent (straightened) their gear shift lever to try to "improve" the position of the shift lever? Any suggestions? I might even try to shorten it a little bit. Would heating it be the best way to successfully bend it? Here are pictures with the gear shift in second and fourth. (May need to add pictures from the side.)

Something don't look right there. Is that first picture in neutral?? It looks like it's leaning to the rear. The second picture looks like it's leaning way too far back. That must be 2nd and 4th.

I have Hermann's kit in my TR3, and the shifter wound up in the same spot as originally. In 1st, 3rd and 5th it's slightly forward. In 2nd, 4th and reverse it's slightly to the rear. In neutral it sticks straight up.

I think you may have to take the trans tunnel off to see if you have everything set up properly. I'd also give Hermann a call and see what he has to say.

Looks close to Bob's to me. I guess the real question is how will it work if I straighten the lever to move it closer to the dash? I have an extra lever to experiment with. Can I bend it without heating it?

Update: Bent the shift lever so that it's closer to the dash. Opinions will vary, but this works better for me. Didn't have to heat it. Put it in a vise, and it bent pretty easily. These pictures were taken in second and first. You can go up one post for the before pictures.

As long as you're happy David, that's all that matters.

It does look better with your bending, IMHO.....
