Does any one know how to get the gear shift knob off the lever? I used a switch on the dash for the overdrive and I have a wooden knob left from the old three rail transmission. I made a forked screwdriver to get down to the grooved not but it is so tihgt I bent the tool. T.T.

Trevor, my book says to pry off the cap / overdrive switch, disconnect the leads from the switch, loosen the locknut, unscrew the retaining ring and remove the knob.
I've never done it, but that's what the book says has to happen. That is from the BL Repair Operation Manual, Spitfire 1500.

Hello TT,
is there a tapered chrome sleeve below the gear knob?, if there is you will find it has two flats on it (9\16" I think). Unscrew that away from the knob and you should find the slotted ring inside the gear knob will unscrew easily.
