Boot/trunk floor (and three associated supports) and both rocker panels.

BCS/Kilmartin or Moss or...

Quality over price, but let's not get crazy.

TIA

Paul

The trunk parts from Kilmartin should work for you. I had no issue with the floor. I made my own upright supports and the bumper outriggers. I did have to modify the rockers a little. I had to shorten them by a quarter inch and re-weld. You may not have that issue though. There was a thread sometime ago talking about the curvature of most rockers being different than original. I couldn't locate it unfortunately. A dim cell in my brain says Keoke liked the rockers from Hemphill's

Not sure there is a difference between Kilmarten or Moss. Moss may be Kilmartin.

Last Saturday Sports Car Craftsmen of Arvada, CO. gave a frame and body tech session on MGA's. It was an excellent investment of a Saturday. In summary aftermarket sheet metal parts "are a good starting point" and almost always require reshaping or tweaks to make them fit properly. Don't assume they will drop in and be ready to be welded in place. Paul at Sports Car Craftsmen has maybe the largest inventory of cars and prefers to salvage parts vs. use new replacement panels. In fact he provides Moss with original parts used as a reference for making forms to build new parts.

My project is a 60 BN7 and so far the above need to rework new parts holds true.

A guy in the UK that I know (ATB restorations, I'm sure Google will find him if you wanted to ask anything) imports Kilmartin panels and swears that they are much better than anything else he's seen.

I would be surprised if Moss used them!

Moss does carry the Kilmartin brand, but you never know at any given time what supplier's part you'll receive unless you ask at the time of your order. I'm not bagging on them, they actually stock the same parts from multiple vendors to make as many customers as possible happy. The rear license plate light is one example. My salesman brought out two, on was a cheaper knock-off and the other had a much better chrome finish.

I would definitely recommend Kilmartin. They are superior in every way. Some body parts may be fine if you have to modify them a little but not the trunk floor pan. I got mine from Moss as they happen to carry Kilmartin at the time. I asked before I bought it. The rest of the parts I needed, rocker panel, sills, etc. came from British Car Specialists who are a Kilmartin rep. Have a good day!

I've been told that there are different rocker panels floating around by different suppliers. Check to be sure you get the "curved ones. Mine came from Jule-Enterprises when my frame was remade. Check with Marty at Jule.

Now, does anyone have location measurements and/or photos of the muffler hanger studs in the boot floor for a BJ8? My Dad had done a quicky replacement of the boot floor 20+ years ago and left them off, switching to a BJ7 exhaust. I may still go with a BJ7 exhaust, but I want the chassis to be correct.

I'm almost positive the Kilmartin floor has the muffler hanger holes pre-drilled. I'll check for you later today.

Yes, the holes come with the part. I pretty sure they even supply the elevator style bolts too. The photo shows where the hanger mounts and the floor comes with three holes.

I got a boot floor from Moss and it does not quite fit. I looks like when they stamped it they did not get the blank all the way into the die, resulting in a little more turn down at the back and leaving it a little short in the front. At any rate before you cut the old boot floor out, be sure you take measurements from the bootwall to the rear of the floor pan.

Hello Richard Dickinson,

I hope your boot floor doesn't have those cracks and holes in it that the picture from GregW. Did you also get the special shaped bolts also in the picture.

Sorry GregW couldn't resist. I'm sure the boot floor really is in great shape and the bolts are just an optical illusion.

No it's not a full moon.

Best regards,

bundyrum.

Hehe, no worries. That was the way the car arrived here in California. I didn't even take the exhaust off. It fell off onto the carrier during transport it was so rusted.
