Mine used to say it was "better to keep your mouth shut & have people think you might be stupid than to open it & have them know for sure". Wonder if there's an adage in there somewhere about the cars we drive? [/QUOTE]
Hmm? Might be Tony,

A week or so back I was talking to a gal over a couple of beers when after the usual banter about careers, family and a little politics, the subject changed to hobbies.

When I said I like to work on old cars – her eyes lit up! She then asked what kind? When I told her - her exuberance took a dark turn – when she raised an eyebrow & said in a somewhat disappointed tone “so you like them foreign jobs?”

Well with that things where pretty much at a stand still, so I took a pull on my longneck looked at my watch, turned & thanked her for the conversation and quickly moved on.

Don't blame her really. I guess I confused her when she saw me pull up to the bar in my 4x4, wearing jeans & boots and my somewhat "colloquial" pronunciation of the English language - she must've thought I was kinfolk and had no business in one of them there "Fer'in jobs".

Ah, maybe.....you could always have told her you live in a trailer, that would have redressed the balance. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Or impress her with "Back in '82, I used to be able to throw a pigskin a quarter mile." /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

"Michael.....I don't think we're going to make the next corner, reduce speed and turn left, hard, NOW!" Points to those who get this one! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

There's a bit of my youth......

Hunph! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif Gents, my 78 Shark is far from the fastest car on the road - but I have to say that it would totally kill "any" 82 Firebird TransAm! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

BTW - couldn't crome them even if I wanted to - they're plastic (ABS?) aftermarket. Can't find the origenal aluminum units anymore. Besides don't think crome would look right on a 928.

If you're on a budget and would like them aluminum, just tape them with aluminum tape.
Seem to remember doing that with a Mini many moons ago to good effect.

oh yeah... didn't even think of that. The shiny aluminum duct tape that you have to peel wax paper off of before sticking it to duct insulation. I reckon doing that would take a bit of patience, especially if you want it to look presentable /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Oh, com'on guys?!?! Give me some credit will ya? The shinny aluminum duck tape sounds like something you'd see coming out of a TJ (Tijuana BC) body shop! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif
