Share the Spare [tire that is]

You could buy riding chaps, they come pre-cut. It’s a look all it’s own. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

that's a scary thought. I've got this image of the Village People in my head. Now I'm thinking about Anthony staying at the YMCA, and wondering if he's still got his spare tire in tow.

Just so all of you know, I'm really just trying to rack up enough posts so I can become a Darth Vader like Keoke, except without the knowledge of Healeys. It's not easy, you know.

Maybe Gonzo needs the space to carry all the cash needed to get repairs on the road? I'm sure, if you carry the members guide and a map you will find VERY nice people to help along the way. I have the boot mounted luggage rack (detaches leaving the chrome bumps attachments) and it holds a lot of weight with modern light weight luggage. You may remember (from Dixon) I even carry a Denver boot (wheel lock)in the boot. We use soft luggage on the rear shelf and boot. I carry alot of spares, too, but probable not the ones I'd need. Ny car cover is in one of those compression bags as well. I believe Michael suggested it last summer and I love it! Once, when we were visiting Los Angeles for a week we shipped our "dress-up" luggage ahead ($18.00).

TH, shipping luggage is a good trick. On a long business trip I once FedExed all my laundry back home just so I could travel lighter. Here's an idea...how about shipping the spare tire ahead to make room for more luggage.

You guys must be masochistic to drive one of these things on a trip where you need more than a change of shorts and a tooth brush. I use to do that because I had to. But now if I ever get mine up and running I will put it on a trailer behind my F150, that way I can roll my tool box, air compressor, generator, and spares on with it. I once drove an MGA from Arkansas to Mexico City, the only problem we had was finding an English speaking doctor to give a penicillin shot.

ok, ...don't ship the luggage and leave the spare in the boot. instead, leave your passenger home and you just gained room for a large duffel bag...or an attractive hitch hiker.

Does dirty laundry need to reported as has toxic waste to Fed X?
If anyone is comming up here for the June gathering in Tahoe they may ship stuff to my office (4 miles from the event at Stateline) and I'll deliver it to your hotel. And happy to drop off returns. Contact me for address on my home page on this forum. Please, no spare engines.

This is one of those amazing threads. A simple question leads to a lively round of off-topic non-sense. Ya gotta love Freedom of Speech!

Hey, if anyone's still interested -- and I don't mean to change the subject here -- I think you can get by pretty well with a pair of inner tubes, a can or two of Fix-A-Flat, a cell phone and AAA+ membership. But that's just me, and I can sleep in Healeys. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

First, if I can only bring half a pair of boxers, why do you get to bring a pair of tubes? As for sleeping in Healeys, what exactly do you mean by the word "sleep"? And remember, this is a family forum.

Gonzo,
I plan to go to BC and will have a passenger. I will definatly carry my spare and as many other spares as I can round up. I am looking for folks from the Bay area to caravan with for the reasons you mentioned. I plan to carry:
2 prewired distributor caps with rotors/points etc
Set of generator brushes
2 pre wired (bullet quick change) fuel pumps
gasket materials
oil filter (spin on adapted)
Newly restored side curtians
Assorted liquids oil, water, brake fluid, beer, beer, beer
Valve cover gasket
Tools (including a timing light

For all of this I am eyeing a Cape luggage rack they require no drilling.

I will carry a minimum of clothes and extra junk (need room for beer).

I would not let myself get that far from home without being mostly self sufficient. I recommend that you get a rack and carry your spare. Last year Len had 2 blowouts on his BJ8, one on his trailer and one on his rear. I believe he had to go to a shop to get the second repaired, luckily he could leave the trailer behind and drive to the shop.

On the other hand I just got back from Vegas and saw folks taking much bigger risks than being 1000 miles from home with out a spare. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif Let me know if you are interested in driving the 1 there and back.

when I replaced the spare recently, I downsized the tire a bit to a 155/16 and found that it fit a whole lot better and gained some room. It's not a donut, and can be used like a real tire, but the 10mm really made a difference.

WOT! 10mm??. Should ah just removed the tire restraint on the left side of the boot and slid the ,165, tire over- good for about 2" of additional space.---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
