Thanks Jack, that makes sense - see if they have a big 3/8 threaded female mounting hole.
I was thinking I could take a nut that fits the threads ont he shaft and weld on a stud that fits my shift knob.
This has to wait until I get my welder, and then I think it will take a lot of practice to get it right.
If anyone has a better idea I'm all ears.
I'll see if I can get under there today and take some more pictures.

Shifter differences: I'd be finding a way to grind a half an inch or three-quarters of the shifter to "close" and run a 1/4-28 (can't recall for sure, check the knob for proper thread size) die down over it to solve that problem.

Dr E - I like that thinking.
I'm pretty good on a bench grinder.
Or I could drill & tap & insert a stud.
That might be easier than trying to get the right diameter at the right angle and not go overboard.
I'm pretty good with a grinder, I'm a freakin genius with a drill...
First I take the knob across the street to my home town True Value store and get the proper stud.

Ok people, I jacked it up again.
Thought I'd go ahead & grease it up & change the oil.
A couple of the zerks didn't want to receive the goodness I was offering but eventually gave way.
Everything seemed to be a bit dry. Now it's all good.
Here are the pictures of the transmission etc.
Clutch slave seems to have japanese characters on it, so I am guessing the whole power train is Nissan.

sure looks like it bolted to the rear mount pretty well. That one bolt look loose to me tho.

Ok, I got that freaking thing as tight as the other side.
I'm not pleased with it but it will have to do.
Something I'm going to have to keep an eye on.
I don't know what can be used on the upper side to hold the nut up there but nothing in my toolbag worked very well.
