Setting up an electronic swap meet

This comes from regularman's thread on swapping some parts. There are a bunch of folks here with assorted Spridget bits for potential sale, and an equal number of folks with parts needs. In an effort to facilitate this, I've come up with a possible solution:

https://www.drooartz.com/index.php?page=39

This is basically a user-editable table, which would allow registered folks to post either "wants" or "haves." This is part of some web software I've been developing for my day job over the last few years.

If we want it working, all I need is a folk's name and a contact email, and we're in business. If folks really aren't interested, that's fine as well. I had the software available, and thought it might help bring some more buyers and sellers together efficiently.

Otherwise, maybe we should all motivate and make use of the BCF classifieds. They've got a "wanted" sections as well, so it could work too. I'd sure like to be able to see what folks have that they'd be interested in selling, as I've got a few things I could use.

Darn Drew I have parts of a heater, needs some serious restoration, it is only the outer box and radiator though.
Talk to be bud. Was that for real. If so I will check in the morning.

Yep that's a nice little data base program.

I sent you a PM Drew.

My unneeded stuff will be free except for postage. I will try to pay back for all the help I have been given here.

You're all set up, Jack.

My "want" posting was mostly just a test, though I am casually looking for a heater. I think I have a line on a good one locally, just haven't had the chance to go look at the guys garage yet. One of these days...

Hay Drew, that works great. I posted one item and it is for real, will post others over the next few days.

Love it. All my stuff will be free plus a bit of postage. Payback time.

Y'all are set up, and should have PMs with account info. To get in, go to the site:

https://www.drooartz.com/index.php?page=39

and click on the "Login" link (blue link for now). Once logged in, you will see a "New" button for adding new entries. If you are just browsing the list, there is no need to log in.

Let me know if you have questions, or run into any snafus. I'm still developing this, so any input about better usability is welcome. Y'all are my beta testers, really.

BTW: as I'm setting folks up I'm making up passwords for them. If you have a specific password you want to use, PM me and I'll change it.

that's great drew.... i have some things i got from those "parts sales" off ebay that i don't need or will never use. i will look to see what i have and then post it over the next couple weeks.
.
i would however offer that for people selling things off this database, IMO they should be very reasonable (if not free) with their asking price. example is jack, who is offering free except for shipping. i would want to go that route as well. i can understand something that is rare and valuable or in great condition may require an asking price, but since it's within our community, there should be some consideration to offer more as a swap or giveaway. okay! i'm done! thanks again drew!

I agree... sort of "pay it forward" principle.

Drew, I just wonder if we should not offer this to Basil for a spridget swap meet area. Or at least make sure he knows this is going on.

Jack, I did post about this in the "new forum" forum. Didn't get much feedback, but I hope that Basil saw it. When I get a chance I'll PM him and make sure he's aware of it.

Edit: PM to Basil sent -- just wanted to make sure he was informed

Should somehow be able to show all the listings by sale or wanted? Unless I just do not know how to do it.

I agree with Fred's guiding principal. I see this more for bits we'd be willing to more or less pass around to those who need them. I'm certainly not against selling parts for profit (and have done so) but we already have a good Classified site here on the BCF. This is more for the other stuff we can list as available.

Mostly, this is an experiment. We'll see if it takes off and folks find it useful.

Cool, I forget to put free in the dollar spot, sigh.

Drew:

I hope this okie dokie with the great pumpkin.

I sent ya a pm.

Patrick

Drew,

I'm in. mustafasoylemez@yahoo.com

Thanks!

I have not quite gotten to cleaning out the unused items from the build...but will get there eventually (hopefully this month, once I send back all the excess stuff from Moss and VB)...

Mustafa

Mustafa, you have a PM.

Patrick -- I let our esteemed emperor know what we were up to, and I'll certainly listen if he has any concerns. This is an interesting experiment, we'll see what comes of it.
