Series 1 E-Type fuel pump question

I have a series 1 E-Type coupe with the submerged fuel pump. I'd like to have some sort of back-up system. Does anyone know if an electric pump such as one of the small Facet pumps will pull fuel thru the existing submerged pump if the submerged pump would die? Alternatively - does anyone have a later (4.2 and on) fuel pick-up with cover plate they want to get rid of?

Thanks
Bob

Submerged types are aftermarket, if I recall. Most are rotary vane-type, which makes it very difficult to draw through when stopped (as in, failed). If it was mine, I'd pull the pump and plate and add another pickup tube, feed it to another pump with a shutoff valve to switch between and a switch to select either.

Early E types had the fuel pump inside the tank. I have an old one laying around somewhere, pretty sure you can use the existing one with external pump. If nothing else, put one on and try it as it is, don't turn the ignition. Seems like I did that a few years ago and worked fine.
