I think to answer your question you would only have to play the "what if" game a bit.
What if the car was sold and registered in the month/year it was built?
What if it took a year to cross the pond, go on a dealer's lot, and find a home.
What if the dealer went under, the courts got involved, and the car did not get sold until five years after manufacture?
Your own (human) year of manufacture is your date of birth, not when you got your first shots, or registered for Pre-K, or discovered girls. Those are just documented events...like issueing a title. I'd say, same with a car.
