Semantical question, what year is my car?

Drew,
I think to answer your question you would only have to play the "what if" game a bit.

What if the car was sold and registered in the month/year it was built?

What if it took a year to cross the pond, go on a dealer's lot, and find a home.

What if the dealer went under, the courts got involved, and the car did not get sold until five years after manufacture?

Your own (human) year of manufacture is your date of birth, not when you got your first shots, or registered for Pre-K, or discovered girls. Those are just documented events...like issueing a title. I'd say, same with a car.

I guess this question comes from folks asking me what the year of the car is.

My Bugeye is also titled as a 1960, but built in August 1959. I asked this very question after I first bought it and the consensus then was it's a '59, so that's what it is to me.

As silly as it sounds, I prefer to call mine a '59 as it rolls off the tongue easier than saying "it's a sixty" when asked "what year is that?".

Besides, it's a fifties design......a lot of people looked disappointed when I used to call it a '60. I guess the lack of fins confused them! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

A good argument can be made that the BE design is one of the last "hurrahs" of classic 50s styling and the cars that followed all look more "modern"!!

After some thought and reading all y'alls comments, I've decided that 1959 is the proper year for the Tunebug. Don't know if I'll bother to change the title, it's probably not worth standing line at the DMV to try to argue that one.

So 1959 it is. Note the now-changed forum signature below, the all important location for this information, after all. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
