What does it cost to sell a car on eBay? For example, when I see a tr3 sell for 20K is there a government charge or some kind of Tax or are they given an income tax statement from Ebay?

Ebay has a "listing fee" for beginning the auction and a "final value fee" if it sells. Probably a couple of hundred bucks in all.

No sale-price info sent to state or federal gummint as of now (1099, etc.), though it gets talked about from time to time.

I sold a car on ebay a few months ago. No charge at all to list it. A $125 charge when the car sold. I think the $125 is for a car sale over $2000.

No other charges, fees, or reports to anyone.

It remains the seller's responsibility to report a capital gain or business profit (if any) for tax purposes.

Of course when you factor in all of the resto costs, there will be a net capital loss...
