self dimming mirrors

Has anyone tried the self dimming mirrors. It seems that when I'm behind one of our little cars my headlights are too bright from my suv.
 
not in the B but I installed one in my truck and its great. I dont think it's possible to install one on an MG unless your willing to install a mounting bracket on the windshield itself. Then you have to figure out a way to get power to the mirror.
 
I usually tip the mirror down. You can also install a manual dimming mirror if you don't mind a modern-looking mirror on your early B.
 
No rear view mirror here

....and a wiring harness of some kind running along the windscreen frame. The BGT could have the harness in the headliner, I suppose....

I did shudder a little at the thought of actually adding another electrical device to the car, and the one in my suv is indeed very nice, but Steve and Patrick are probably right. If the car behind me is important, then either the headlights are at the same height as mine, or the lights will be blue or red.Otherwise, who cares?

No wiring needed for a manual mirror. You just flip the little lever at the bottom for night driving.

Bought my wife a new LHS Chrysler once with all the goodies and one of them was a self dimming mirror. It never worked like I thought it should from beginning to end. Actually I don't think it ever worked at all. The dealer said, Oh, it's working perfectly! Yeah sure!?!? I'd never have another one. Manual flip lever type for me.
 
Caddy had self diming mirror, worked great. Was a nice feature.
 
Somewhat related- Am I the only one who, when followed a little too closely by a tall vehicle at night, tries to adjust the side mirrors to reflect the headlights right back at him?

I agree with you Jack. The GM cars had one that did work. The wife had an Eldorado before with one that did work. The one in her Chrysler was of a poor design. I would assume that all Chrysler products used the same type of mirror. I like my truck mirror. Just flip a lever. PJ
 
I've got two highlanders, '05 and '07 hybrid and the self dimmers are wonderful. I can remember my dad would mess with the rear view and bounce high beams back at drivers behind us with high beams. The '53 Studebaker was a lower style car and that drove him crazy, but I still try and manuever my outside mirors to bounce back the light.
 
hmmm, i have a pedal that fixes this problem. the longer i stomp on it, the smaller the lights in the mirror become....
 
Self dimming? Certainly! Every time I hit a tough spot in the road!
