Self Dimming Mirror on 99 XJ8

Self Dimming Mirror appears to be defective. Bottom 3/4 dark and top 1/4 appears normal.

Replacement from dealer is $380

Is there a test/troubleshooting procedure?
 
Nope, mirror is done. Look online for Magna Donnely. They made the mirrors, and the USED to replace them free. Guess that cost a lot of $$$ so they don't do that anymore, but they can direct you to the place that fixes them. I have had 4 or 5 done, and so far, no problems
