MGB Seized air pump issue

About ready to jam a wooden dowel into the air injection ports! The 7/16-20 that John Twist and others say to use are too small for my application. Off to Lowes/Home Depot with hopes and crossed fingers.

Unfortunately mine is up in a leased shop space 40 miles away, otherwise I'd pull one out and see what it is for you. Knowing my luck it would strip out and not go back in.....

I've also seen pipe plugs in some. No post-'67 heads here so can't help with size.

Probably need to call in to a fastener shop like granger or the like to find the correct one.
Done...7/16 20 bolt... a little long but still beats hearing the "farts" through the unplugged ports. Not pretty, but it will suffice. I can't believe how poorly it ran without the gulp valve. Reinstalled and voila, a smooth as, well as smooth as a77 MGB can be!

If you have a tap/die set and some patience you could custom cut the bolts down to a proper fit and then clean up the threads (maybe with a copper crush washer to make a good seal - crank 'em in and call it done).

Rummaging through the garage to try locating the tap and die set... Maybe I'll be subtle and beat the living crap out of it... You know the od British car adage? Don't force it, use a bigger hammer! Right now my goal is two SU's and a Monza exhaust. I had s/s on an earlier B but I figure at 75, the Monza should outlast me!

If you want to make it prettier cut the head off the bolt (and as much of the shank as you need to make it the right length) and Dremel a slot so you can install it flush with the block with a screwdriver.

I was lucky when I did mine years ago. One of my customers at the time managed a fastener company and provided me with the proper size allen head set screws for free. I should have bought a hundred of them so I could give them to other MG owners in need!
