I am tempted to buy them 1) because I have B and 2) because I have the contacts to have reproductions made - including the packaging, etc. Would there be enough demand to have some made?

update: I sent him an email. Let's see what response I get back.

Do It! that's a project worth doing.

Yep - I'd get at least one set.

VERY interesting. I have/had the instruction sheet someplace, didn't like the idea of drilling holes in my car at the time. The set came out of Royston, in NJ.
ISTR we sold the "kit" to an E-P racer... ima dummy... :jester:

I have a buddy in NJ that is supposed to have 2 original sets. He will be here in NC from friday till sunday. PM if you want to be in contact with him while he is here. He will sell them if he still has them! Bob

Send me a PM if sets are being made or sold.
Vince

I just picked up a Sebring Front Valence for my '74 and might look for a Rear. Seeing these headlights make's me think why not.

I bought a set of these for my then new 1973 MGB.

At that time, you only received the cowls, no shaped brackets or hardware of any kind.

I had to talk Bill Machiolek (EP racer) into taking a set too, as that's the only way the dealer (Bob Owens, Westland, MI) would order them, was to get two (2) sets.

As I recall, with Bill's discount (he had a repair shop in New Boston, MI) the cost was $52.00/pair, so not cheap, even then.

I'll say this, I never saw another MGB in the Detroit area with them fitted. They were still on the car when I sold it, sometime during 1975.

Well beyond what I was willing to spend. Bob, did you find out if your friend still has a complete set? I'd still like to explore having some repros made.

You can buy repros that are just like the originals. In fact you can buy four sets of them for what someone just paid for that set, and I doubt anyone could tell the difference. I've had two sets. Here's one, only difference being the type and position of the fastener. I'm using a quick-release instead of screwing it into the sheet metal.

Interesting auction. Being an old "eBay veteran," I always have mixed feelings when I see these auctions. The "sniper" who got it put his bid in FOUR SECONDS before the auction closed; his ONLY bid. You know that he had to be frustrated as he watched the other 3 parties keep bidding it up higher and higher. Then, of course, my last thought is always, "I wonder how much he bid. Did he bid $500? $750? $1,000?"

I don't want to bore you if you are familiar with eBay auctions, but here is a lesson I learned early in my eBay career. There was a license plate up for auction that I really wanted. It was listed at 50 cents, but was worth $25 to me, so the first day of the auction, I bid $25.50, which made me the high bidder, at 50 cents. Well, this lady came on who also wanted it. So, over a 5-day period, she submitted FIFTY bids, in 50-cent increments, still leaving me as the high bidder, but 50 cents higher each time. Well, she finally took it up to $25, THEN SHE STOPPED BIDDING (two more bids and it would have been hers). So, I ended up getting the plate for $25.50, and I was happy.

Had I waited until the last minute to put in my bid, I would have gotten the plate for 75 cents, the first increment above her original bid of 50 cents. So, although I was happy, I was dumb and happy.

I promise: no more eBay stories.
