A guy in our church recently purchased a Ural side-car bike, after playing around with his son's Ural for a couple of years, and he'll go out in any weather, and I've been told Ural's do quite well in snow...

The photo on the right was taken, with Lorne riding his son's Ural, on the left was this morning...

What a great old looking bike.... and with a side car.... my kind of bike

Is that one of the new ones?

It is a brand new Ural bike, which as some know they still manufacture in Russia, but it's essentially a retro-style design that has a strong niche market here in North America... https://www.ural.com/

This one's kinda scary....look at all the photos closely, comrade.

That's great! I've been thinking of getting a Ural some day. My wife (who doesn't like riding passenger on my bike) thinks the sidecar might be the way to go.

I haven't seen this red one, very interesting, Lorne has the standard green paint job...

@Drew

Well if you do ever buy you'll have an all-weather vehicle...

Tony was referring to the Soviet symbol on that small box on the back of the bike. Where a lic. plate would go. Seen best in image #3 from his link.

I could tell ya stories about the red star...and hammer/sickle......

Like, a Soviet Foxtrot diesel attack sub, flying a Russkie flag, with the hammer/sickle painted BIG on one side of the sail, and the star on the other.......assisted by a tugboat, arriving unannounced 6 months after 9-11 in Puget Sound.....and Whidbey launched fighter cover for the Coasties ordered out to intercept.....

The US Gummint did NOT like that.

Irregarless that all but one of the batteries was gone, all electric drive panels gutted, and the three Kolomna diesels were block and crank only.

All them years in the Cold War, I'd be a tad concerned....especially if a squadron of those with stars came down my street.

Man the Bofors!

I WANT a Ural... I like the "patrol" version with all the off-road gear. They are a reverse-engineered BMW from WWII. Part of Russia's pie after the war.
Likley the one in the photo is like the one I want. a pull of a lever between the bike and the sidecar will engague the sidecar wheel as a drive wheel. Thus making the Ural a Street-legal ATV and very capible in the snow.
SOmeday, one will be in my garage next to a restored Triumph ( I can dream can't I ?)

Well, Banjo, aren't you in luck? My brother Gene in Halopaw, Fla sells Urals. He says he's the biggest importer in the south, I don't know for sure. If anyone is interested, I can send you to his website.

Send it to me, please....

You baiting me, Scott? hehehehe

 I knew a Ural topic would do well, just got back from being out for the evening... But I agree that they are funky bikes...

Gene used to do Corvettes. He would buy a wrecked Vette, (rear ended) and build a station wagon or estate wagon out of them. He shipped quite a few to the UK.
Now, my Dad worked for Harley Earl before Harley Earl worked for GM. GM went to Mr. Earl's design studio in Columbus, Ohio for help on the developement of the Corvette. My Dad built up a number of jigs and trim parts and who knows what else for the prototype. He followed Mr. Earl to the GM Tech Center in Warren, Mich where he worked in the plaster shop, clay shop and then into the paint shop where he was 2nd shift supervisor for many years. For a couple decades he worked on every show car that left the Tech Center. I degress. Brother Gene Jr. also got into the Vettes, but since his retirement from one of the airlines in FLA. as a machinist, he's been into the bikes.
And yes, the urban legend about War Hoop's junkyard on Mound Road were all true...uncrushed showcars and all!

You guys are wayyy outta my league. I'm just a wrench spinner with a soft spot for antique and retro machinery.
There is a Ural dealer a few hours from here. my cousin has a cottage on the Hudson river a few miles from the dealer. when my finances change, and the time is right , I'd like to go get one. But I'll likley end up with a used one.
Anybody need some sub-assemblies restored.. (carbs, steering boxes, trannies, heaters, horns, dizzys and the like)?? maybe I can make a go of a garage business and get the funds flowin for some toys like that.

I won't tell you as a kid how we went to visit my Uncle (who hated relatives, and promptly locked himself in the den and took a nap), but us kids got to wallow around in the garage.

BIG narrow solid wheels with funny tyres....Pontiac engines, blowers, LaSalle transmissions....and hanging on the wall this big bonnet, blue, with no scoops.....off the Challenger I.

But, I digress.
