Securing the jack with strap in BJ8 boot

Does anyone have a picture or good description of how to secure the factory jack within the boot using the strap on a BJ8? I’ve looked through the concours guidelines but cannot find a clear description or photo.
thanks,
Steve

I believe the commonly-shared assumption is that the strap wraps around the jack and the frame extension where the bumper bolts to it. However, I don't know of any "official" answer to your question.

It's a largely pointless piece of kit because the jack isn't going to go anywhere if stored in the recess/pocket of the boot next to the gas tank, but I suppose with vigorous, enthusiastic driving it would roll around slightly in there without the strap. That said, the BMC bean-counters didn't axe it from the spec for the model, so someone thought it was necessary - maybe we're overlooking something?

Thanks. When you refer to the ‘recess/pocket’, do you mean to the left of, it to the rear of the gas tank?
Thanks
Steve

Well, again, no official answer that I know of, but looking into the boot, facing the front of the car, the recess on your left - opposite of the battery location - is a handy place to store it. I suppose you could alternatively strap it to the exposed support strut at the middle of the gas tank, to its rear, but we're making this up as we go along as there's no known "school solution," at least not that I know of.

I have one in our BJ7 but a friend is looking for one for his car. I don't remember where I got mine. Anyone know of a source? Maybe just as easy to find the material and make one. ???

Why not just buy an additional chrome staple, the same as the one in the BJ8 that the strap loops through?
Mount it in the passenger trunk recess, put some foam under the jack to stop rattles.
Go buy a man's belt with simple buckle, shorten it, punch more holes in with leather punch.
All done ......
Yeah I know ... it's not concours ... I'm not purist, remember.

I am NOT looking for options. I am searching for a source for the ORIGINAL type item!

I'd try Geoff Chrysler (son of Rich) whose business name is Rightway Heritage Trimming. I wouldn't say that it's a sure thing he makes them, but I would say that there's very good chance, and if Geoff makes it, it's correct.

(By the way, the one offered by AH Spares is wrong: green instead of black and one end is unfinished; they also list it as applying to all models BN1-BJ8. Very unusual for AH spares to fumble like that.)

Excellent! Just what I was looking for........will contact Geoff! Thanks, Reid!
