Just thought I would ask if any of you BCF members are going to be there this year? I will be "camping" (a friend has a trailer) up by turn 13 from Wed. til Sun. I will try to create a little BCF pennant to hoist on a mast or something. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

Don't be /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif ! Just one of the perks of living down here, nearby /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif ! Anymore I think you see more by watching on TV, though the "total" experience is missed!

They asked me to take pictures but I'm supposed to be going on vacation starting that Saturday...if I work it out I might still be able to fly down there to shoot it and get back early.

I noticed there were some very "strategic" openings cut thru the wire fencing on the outside of turn one... as if they were done by photographers who wanted to shoot long lens stuff of the field at start/finish and heading into the first turn. Very cagey.

There usually are. There are several places at Daytona with holes cut. The horseshoe turn on the road course has a big tall fence on top of a wall that has a huge buffer made of tires. The fence has 6-7 square holes cut in it. Watch during the next 24 hour race, there's always people standing there.

Thus explains this /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Very nice!! Except for the hint of the tire tracks just ahead of the cars, someone would think you ran out and stood in the middle of the track for that shot!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif

Actually, it was a very low pass in the Cessna.

I hope they put the big orange X on the runways during the race!

I went to A&P school with a guy who tried to land at York, PA when it was closed for a drag race. He thought it was Lancaster.

He thought, "X marks the spot, right?"

Good pilot, bad navigator.

Wow, Bugeye.

I'm at a loss for words. Can't even think of a disparaging comment about pilots. And that's rare.

At least no one was hurt badly. That's good.

Excuse me while I put on my serious hat...

I agree that the pilots' "coolness under fire" and flying skill (slipping a 767!) averted what could have been a disaster, BUT the whole mess could have been averted if they had paid attention to units when doing their calculations!

My students thought that I was mean for taking points away if their answers were in wrong units. Well this is an example of the consequences of using wrong units.

Passengers' lives depend on it!

By the way, Fairchild Republic built the 767 under-cockpit fuselage section for Boeing. The part that hit the runway. Looks like it held up O.K. We built tough stuff.

Serious hat removed.
