Seat recovering, 1500 Midget

I looked up prices at one of the major vendors and need to do better.

Replacing foam on drivers side only
new coverings for both seats
one heater kit for drivers side (on sale $79)

Shipped price was $570.

That's just too much, so what are any better options?
Subtracting the seat warmer kit only brings it down to $491 and that's still too much.

I am inclined to buy the seat warmer kit now while it's on sale - this would be very nice to have on all those really cold winter mornings that I drive. However their shipping is a killer when you are just ordering one item.

Anyway, if someone has a better (and way cheaper) source please point me to them.

Local shop. My guy gets the seats as they come out of a nasty car, I get them back looking like new for about $300 a pair.
He cuts new foam, he has made several Bugeye seat pans for me too.
And does them exactly like they were or how ever I want them. He has done 2 tone seats for me once.

Frank, we all wish we had your guy.
But that does prompt me to go and research local places.
Who knows - maybe I can find a local guy too...

Mine has JC Whitney covers and I love them. PO did 'em. I couldn't figure out why I liked them some much then it hit me; same vinyl pattern as a VW.

You guys, send your seats to frank with a check. gesh.

Next question:
What seats fit and just take some fiddling with mounting them?
Pontiac Fiero right? All years (84-88?)
What about Mazda Miata?
Any others?

Going to look for nice seats from wreckers and see what I can get for less than the $500 they want for new vinyl covers and a set of foams for the drivers side.

Probably get a real nice pair of seats for less than $500.

Summit will send me a set (Left and Right) of Scat/Procar - Scat Pro-90 Series 1300 Reclining Seats
delivered for $499. They look nice too:

Ah heck, out of stock.
But estimated ship date of 2/24 - that's not bad.

A little research and here I find a pair of Fiero seats from a 1987 car at a local wrecking yard for $120 / pair.

They even have a picture online:

I'm not 100% sure fiero seats will fit. I know they use them in MGBs.

Miata seats will fit. Several people have gone that route.

Miata seats will fit and I think there are a couple of links that give the instructions on adjusting them. I loved having them in the old Sprite....someday I will get them back into the Red Sprite.

I see a bunch of posts out there by people who have used both Fiero seats and Miata seats.

Anyone know if there are Miata years that are better for fitting in the Spridget?

If you boys would like to stay with some authenticity and have the performance look then you may be interested in the Sebring Sprite seats.

Wow - That's really RED!!

It does remind me of my seats in my Sprite though, the shape of it anyway.

Where do I find them for sale?

Dont rule out eBay. I bought this Mercedes seat for $40 in mint condition. Cost me more to ship it (~$60) than I paid for the seat itself.

Entire BMW leather interiors can be had for $500ish.

Sweet, what BMW has seats that will fit a Spridget?
A set of leather seats with heaters would be nice!

Lots of luck, that is a nice looking seat.

With all these high back tight fitting seats out of sedans and such, how do you propose to use your tonneau cover? Planning to have one custom made to fit the seats? With that added expense you could stay authentic have your seats professionally re-covered or order covers from Moss or BV and have the enjoyment of utilizing your tonneau cover, just a thought!
