Seat Frames on 1961

Greetings to all

Well I got a Healey for my Birthday last week and I need some help with the seats and bases. I have taken some pictures but not sure how to post them. I think the passenger side frame is installed backwards.

Does it angle off on the trasmmision tunnel side?

I think you need to find another Healey owner in your area before you do any damage.

Okay any Healey owners in Toronto Ontario need to look at your seat pans. Before I spark up the welder and burn the shop down.

I don't have any idea what you are talking about. From the attached pic, there is only one way the seat pans can fit properly. If one is backward, just unbolt it from the slides underneath, & turn it around.

If by chance you have two left or two right pans, the only solution is to exchange one of them.

If I just don't understand the problem, please explain in reference to the attached drawing.

Hi Dave

For sure the right side the seat frame was installed the wrong way backwards. It had the angle going the wrong way near the door side instead of the tunnel. I have flipped the base around as in your picture. The seat pans are both different so they are not two left or right sides. The seats do not fit into bases but seem to sit on top of the metal frames therefore they slide around now on the one side they attached a wood block to catch the front of seat frame. Not good are there different seat frame base that bolt into the floor.

Is it upside down and possibbly for the other side? The flat side should be on the bottem.Bob

Different year cars had different seat base & seat pan dimensions. It is likely that your seat bases or the pans are not correct to go together. Either the pans or the bases need to be replaced to get a match. If the bases have good upholstery that you want to keep, make a pattern of the bases & look for pans that match. Very frustrating to say the least. Time to check with Dave at Phoenix & get the correct seat base & pan dimensions for your car.

Here are some pictures of (LH) seat cushion base and angle iron frame. Some after market pans do not fit, and this may be your problem. Any questions I would be glad to help.
