Seat cover installation

Hi everyone,

I've searched out and read the previous postings on this topic but I didn't find any comments about how to finish installing the covers. First, let me say that I didn't have the advantage of being able to refer to the old seat covering as a guide in the installation of my new covers. My 66 MGB came with much later seats of the headrest type but covered in slip-on fuzzy sheep-skins. Even the foams were sitting directly on the floor.

I had no trouble getting the replacement covers on the restored 66 frames I bought. I installed new foams and diaphrams and slipped the covers (from Moss) on. I can see how to attach the bottom covers with the clips to the frame (not sure how tight to pull it though) but I can't figure out how to finish off the hanging bits of material and piping at the bottom of the seat back and the back of the seat bottom. Also, I need to know if the pivot bolt threads from the inside out or from the outside in. I thought I had purchased all the right books on restoration but none that I have cover this installation.

If anyone can direct me to a web site that has detailed installation instructions (w/pictures) or just tell me how to go about finishing off the installation I'd really appreciate it.

I've just been retired from the school district I worked for and will have more time to work on my two project cars. So, you can expect to be challenged with many stupid questions over the course of time it takes me to make these cars streetable again. I promise all of you that I will listen and learn from all the very valuable bits of knowledge you share with each other on this forum. I might even share a bit of knowledge myself.

Thanks in advance for any help you might offer up.

I just did the seats in my 72B but they are the ones with head rests. I have some pretty good photos of the frames and the pivot bolts thread from the outside in. There are self locking nuts on the inside. I can also mark on them where the back seat covers wrap around. If you think it would help, you can contact me at my email address mrbassman@sandstar.net amd I can send you a few pictures. I'm not sure if mine would be the same as the ones from your 66.

Welcome to the forum Jim! If you find the info elsewhere feel free to fill us in and we'll add it to the tech-tips.
