Seat Bottoms And Bases Don't Seem To fit Together Well

Is it me or do the seat bottoms and bases don't seem to fit together too well in a BJ7? Could it be that my bottoms are wrong for base?

Frames look OK to me (working from memory, though). Plus, they look to be Kilmartin parts, which are usually pretty faithful to original. My bet's on the pan.

Hi PeterB,

When viewing your pictures, your metal pan seem to present an aggressive turn at the problem corner with an easier turn at that point of the frame. As my original seat pans and frames have the same mismatch and fit well together, I must assume this match is common to all metal seat pans and frames. So, if my seat pans fit securely in their frames after pushing the upholstered pans back under the back support tabs (tabs shown in your picture), I suspect that your upholstery is stopping the pan from sliding all the way back under the tabs to clear the front of the frame.

Hi Derek,

I also noted the difference in angle between the metal pan and frame (a badly designed match). However, as my seat pans and frames are original, have the same dissimilar angles as pictured by PeterB, and have the pan sitting within the frame, I must consider that there is another issue at play. My thought is his upholstery is keeping the seat cushion/pan from sliding back far enough under the frame tabs.

Just my thoughts,
