Seat belts

Hello,
I posted a question about seat belts a few days ago. After the replies, I decided to put new seat belts in. I haven't decided if I want to put in two or three point belts. I am leaning toward three point belts (even though they won't look stock), but for those of you who have the three point belts, where are the points of attachment? I have seen three point belts with the third attatchment at the roll bar (not official racing type). Mine does not have a roll bar, and after the post on roll bars, they do not seem all that safe for the third point of attachment. I will not be racing my car, but I want it safe as reasonably possible. Any suggestions on where and what to buy would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks, Kevin

Depends on what model of Triumph. Three-point belts were at least optional, and mounts provided for them, from the mid-1960s on.

I've dealt with, and have been very happy with the service from, the Andover Companies <https://www.andoauto.com/>, but Seat Belt Pros <https://www.gotbelts.com/>looks very promising as well. Both should have suitable mounting hardware if your car does not have factory mounts.

From all I've been told, it is imperative -- when adding a diagonal shoulder strap mount where none previously existed -- to locate it at least at shoulder height. Too low a mount can cause some serious bodily/spinal compression upon impact.

I mounted my belts at the existing holes from the originals. The inside shoulder strap(if you are getting racing belts) will have to be mounted on the verticle or horizontal of the back shelf. It would be best to reinforce the area from behind.
You will prbably have to get longer length belts for the inside straps.

[/ QUOTE ]At risk of restating the obvious, you do NOT want a racing style harness unless you've already installed a really, really good rollbar...or if YOU like BEING the rollbar. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

I have a 69 TR6. I do not have the car with me, but from the informations given, would the third point of attachment be on the rear fender wells? I will peel back the upholstery tonight to take a peek.
Thanks, Kevin

Here's what my research revealed. Assuming you're using inertial reel shoulder belts, the inboard "female" part of the buckle bolts to the floor boards next to the propeller shaft tunnel. The inertial reel itself mounts where the rear "shelf" meets the wheel arch, directly below the large chrome bolt near the top of the rear arch. The last one -- the outboard mounting point for the "male" part of the buckle -- is the tough one. On cars that had seatbelts, a loop was bolted through the b-pillar, with a reinforcing plate inside the wheel arch. I just don't want to go through there, so I'm contemplating putting a bolt through the floorboard, to match the inboard part of the belt.

The other downside is finding where to go through the floorboards -- in my time under the car, it looks like the frame rails are exactly where I'd want to drill through the floorboards. *shrug*
