T-Series Seat belts on a TD?

I was wondering if anyone here has installed seat belts on his T-Series.

I have Horst Schach's book with his plan to mount the seat belt points directly to the chassis frame, which quite frankly seems extremely dangerous to me.

Has anyone come up with a better plan? Thanks!
 
I have them in my TC. You're making a compromise either way you mount them. In a small crash, mounting to the frame is ideal so they won't tear out of the wood body. In a major crash, mounting to the body is best in case it shifts on the frame. I chose to mount mine to the frame since a minor crash is most likely. In a major one, seat belts may not help much anyway.
 
Steve are these Lap only or shoulder and Lap?
 
Lap belts in my TC. Shoulder belts can be mounted to the body with some creativity but there is no ideal mounting option in my opinion. They also look very out of place!
 
Not required in my mind. Would not save you from anything.
 
I certainly see your point, Jack, and I agree with Steve that in a major crash it isn't going to do much good. However, I need them in order to mount a child seat.

I may simply bolt them through the rear of the floor, and reinforce the floor. Any further ideas in this direction would be appreciated.

Lap belts will save you from destroying your knees in a crash, and perhaps save your passenger from impaling their forehead on the wiper motor. I know people who have done both.
 
I imagine a lap belt would save my knees, but the steering wheel is going to seriously re-work my face and chest. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

As you said earlier, it depends on what kind of crash you have.
 
Not having a seat belt won't prevent the steering column from doing damage, but it will lessen the force of impact upon it and protect you from more serious injury.

I still have one car (Y-Type) without belts but eventually it too will get them. I am still investigating the best mounting for that car.
 
I would prefer to stay in the car rather than flying wherever the forces of physics deem amusing.
 
Florida I found last evening does not require you to have or use seatbelts in vehicles built before 1970.
