seat belt vs. tonneau

Country flag
Offline
I am tired of fighting with my old seat belts and the tonneau cover having to be folded just right. There is a flap/hole for the shoulder part to go thruogh on the cover but the strap is bolted in place in the back. Moss sells a belt that disconnects at the eyelite at the floor. I need it to disconnect at the back. What have others done?
Thanks for any input.

I am only using a lap belt. This was a consideration when I installed this "after market" part.

TH,
I have the belt that disconnects at the eyelet but most of the time I don't bother. It's just a lot easier to unclip the flap (actually the flap under the flap) and fold the tonneau 'just right' so that you can quickly cover and uncover the interior.

Cheers,
John

John, did you put an eyelet in the back (at the wheel well)?
That would let you detach and attach fast. But the kit appears to have only two eyelets for the floor area.
Years ago there were lap belts where the shoulder part was detachable at the buckle so you could go lap and/or harness. I cannot find anything on them now.

HI TH, Take a look at Andover Restraints on the web they may have what you need to simplify your life.-FWIW---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

TH,
No, the shoulder belt is attached to the stud that comes through the upholstered panel with a chrome nut but as I recall (car in parts right now) both the floor attachments are the eyelet type. If you find the detachable shoulder belt that would probably be the easiest and cleanest method to do it.

Another (probably not too great) idea is to add a zipper going from the outside edge to the shoulder slot. Would look odd but would be potentially easier than fooling with the belt. Again, I don't find the 'folding the tonneau' fix to be difficult, just not ideal.

Cheers,
John

My problem with it is that the tonneau tends to push the belt off my shoulder. My old tonneau had a velcro (spelling?) slit that allowed the tonneau to fold in and lay flat. There is not enough material to re-creat that velcro flap or I would have.

Keoke, thanks. Andover has a lot of stuff but I couldn't find the detachable shoulder strap. I will call them and find out if they do custom. They sell the extra eyelet and hooks if I want to modify it.
