I have two complete sets of seat belts. They work well and all, but they are faded and "grungy" looking. I tried cleaning and scrubbing but they still look brownish, faded and dirty. Has anyone ever tried dying their belts back to black? I hate to have to buy new ones when these work well. Ideas?
 
I've dyed things with the dye you can buy from the store before. But I've never been successful in getting it to not run onto things after it dries. It will look good for a while but then it will run onto all your clothes. It's best in my opinion to either leave it looking a little dingy or just buy the new belts and keep the old ones as an emergency spare part should the new ones ever fail.
 
If they're that old and dry, they are probably no longer safe. You can have the re-webbed if you like the hardware.

I am like our friend from Hawaii, except for the surfing before breakfast, and I have had no luck either.

Buy what you like and throw out the old belts, which may no longer be safe. I have a friend who got hit in his vintage T-bird and the seat belts ripped...

Terri, did you try "Resolve"? I had a stain on a seat belt in my truck and my wife told me to spray it with Resolve. The stain disappeared. I now use it on the upholstery and carpet. Smells nice also.
