Well its been a while since I last posted (yes, i have been "lurking"), but I recently got my sprite tub back from the media blaster and I noticed that the undercarriage has a thick plyable putty type seam sealer in it. It comes off easily by hand and I am hoping someone knows what the stuff is so I can replace it. I was looking at 3M ultrapro seam sealer on the web but wanted to ask the forum first. Hopefully, in a week or so I will have some pictures. The tub looks great and I am actually starting to put things back on the car as opposed to removing. It's a great feeling. thanks
 
That is what my guy is useing I beleive, 3M seam sealer.
 
i also see that eastwood has a 3M product as well. Since they are up the street, maybe I'll try that. It's a black caulk.
 
Do you want yours to be paintable?
 
yes, i believe everything i have read so far recommends putting the sealer on after the primer but before the final paint. since the sealer from eastwood is black and the undercarriage will essentially be black, it shouldn't matter. the eastwood sealer is paintable.
 
Yep, that's the process....I just didn't know if Eastwood's was paintable....however, up in the engine compartment & other places that get body color (other than black), I would think the lighter 3M would be a better choice.
 
i agree. i think the ultrapro was tan and that is the color of the stuff i just took off the tub. i also don't want the seam sealer to be any more obvious than necessary.
 
I've used the 3M seam sealer before. It takes a LONG, LONG time to dry, but it is durable and paintable.
 
that's one of my concerns as well. the description says its non-hardening but paintable. The old putty was almost the consistency of playdoe after years of service. I see this stuff coming off and being disturbed through simple maintenance and wear. I would prefer something that has the consistency of putty but hardens after time.
