TR2/3/3A sealing master cylinder pocket

Hi folks.. What did you use to seal the master cylinder pocket to the firewall? Caulk? Rubber? Thanks

That little square plate on the back of the pedal box? Actually nothing. It's an access plate to reach the hydraulic lines. You could seal it if you wanted to, but best to use something easily removed if you have to reach the lines.

Sorry..I wasn't completely clear. Not the access plate but the whole pocket held in place to the firewall by seven bolts. Then the master cylinder is mounted in the pocket.

I used dumdum a non setting sealer unfortunately you can't buy it any more because it has something in it that's not good for us but I am sure there are altunatives out there that will do the same job

Originally they had a black tar like substance seam sealer for the whole assembly. I used rubber based caulking last time. I think it was gray and called Butal rubber or something very common and paintable.

3M makes a seem bedding sealer that is tan or black and never completely hardens, yet can be removed easier than the old "black tar" seems sealer. The closest thing to the old black tar is windscreen setting goo shown here:

That is the very sticky black junk that never hardens and is difficult to remove later...but it seals forever.

Thanks for the input guys. Seems the consensus seems to be as caulk of some sort. I was considering like inner tube rubber cut into strips. For the sake of conversation, what would you think of that?

Thanks John I looked all over for that stuff. I found it in gray but wanted black

If you don't mind taking the time to cut and fit it, it should work perfectly. Glad it helped, Steve. I know every paint supplier sells the butyl stuff, but at a real mark up!
