Seal-Top to water channel

Hi guys. I ran into a new problem tonight. I can't find the metal strip that attaches the top to the water channel at the rear of my BJ-8. Moss lists it as unavailable. This is making me nervous. Any idea where I can find one?

Have you tried British Car Specialists?
I've been to their place. They have lot's of used stuff in the back lot.
Good luck.

Legal Bill,
The piece would be difficult but not impossible to make. It is bent in the shape of the channel, the flat portion is about 1 1/4" long and the top of the piece is formed into a semicircle cross section. To make one you would have to bend some tubing in the shape of the channel and cut it in half and weld it to a flat section in the shape of the channel. Have a good day!

John

Hi Bill,
If you can't find one, the way John outlined isn't a bad way to go. Though cutting the tube along it's length could be a challenge and you'd have to have competent welding skills. Another method would be to build a form in the shape of the drain channel, place a piece of 18ga sheet metal against it and hammer form the top radius. That of course has its own difficulties. Here is a lame photo of that piece with some dimensions. The material looks like it is either 20 or 18 gauge steel. I'd have to put a mic on it to be sure.

Ahspares carry them, not expensive either (40 dollar ish):listed under inner body panels and not hood, so you might miss it:

Ahead4healeys list it:
https://www.ahead4healeys.co.uk/HOOD-RAIL-TRIM---REAR-id3012.html
so you should be able to buy it thru Bob Yule at Autofarm

heres 2 slighlty (just!) pics of it I took for someone else:

I believe BCS are the only ones stocking the seal for it, very expensive if its only a bit of flat rubber? anyone have a pic of it? and is it glued or just sits in situ with the drain channel?

cheers Andy

Thanks to all who replied. Andy thanks for that link. I see the Ahead for Healeys add in the Healey Marque. I will give them a call today.

I don't think the BJ8 had any other seal. The BJ7 lists a seal, but not the BJ8. Looking at the moss installation video, I did not see any seal other than the joint between the hood and the metal seal I am missing. The video instructs you to glue the top to the rail and use the metal clips too. Belt and suspenders I guess.

According to the body parts list on plate L1, there are 2 hood channel seals,
item 47 AHB 9918 for the bj7 upto 59371 and
item 47a AHB9935 for the bj7 from 59372 ONWARDS

cheers Andy
