Seal on Oil Pressure Gauge

There's a small seal that looks like it's made of leather or something else brown and soft, that seals the pipe to the rear of the oil pressure gauge. Mine has disintegrated. What are my options? I can't seem to find this in the Moss or TRF catalogues.

Just about any thin disk of compressible material could be used. If you don't have a vacuum plug like was mentioned above, you could always make a small disk of thick gasket paper... which you probably do have. If you don't have gasket paper, high density card board (like from a 12 pack case of Coke) painted with gasket sealer would work.
 
Excellent advice: thanks everyone. I do have a selection of gasket papers, so will try a piece of that.

Perhaps a silly question, but how does one get the seal onto the pipe? Does it need to be threaded on from the engine end, because the boss at the gauge end is obviously a much bigger diameter than the required hole.
 
Try an O ring ?
 
Interesting. I thought they punted that leather washer when the line changed to plastic. Learn something new every day !

Anyway, TRF P/N for the leather washer is 54902. On a TR3, I think there is a little nub on the gauge fitting that the washer fits over. Likely a TR6 gauge is the same ?
 
All the Smiths oil pressure gauges I have seen have the nub Randall describes right around the small through-hole. You should be able to place the washer there with just a dab of oil on it to hold it in place while the fitting is tightened in place.

AweMan, I thought about an o-ring but I wasn't sure if there was anything in the joint that would prevent the o-ring from "squishing" out of place.
