Screen for warm air side

Like Randy, we also decided to do the heater delete and now both sides are fresh air. The right side is from a triumph I think. I bought it used off ebay and had to move some brackets around to get the proper orientation. There is a second slave cable that operates with the left side so they open and close together.

Dale, What was the model of the AC motor you used on the heater? Did you reuse the original Smith Squirrel cage fan or use something else? Did the new motor/fan require modifications to the blower housing? No one would ever accuse the Smith fan of moving much air.....
 
Rob, I'll have to lookup the model later tonight. Get back to you on that one. Yes, I used all of the Smiths parts except the motor. I don't recall any significant modifications.

Backyard mechanic method The AC Delco motor shaft was 5/16" and needed to be 1/4". I put the stripped down motor gently in a vise on the bench and borrowed the car battery and control switch. I turned the shaft and using a file and emery cloth slowly took off metal. I was careful to check the measurement often with a caliper, and test fitted the cage for fit many times. Again, slowly and carefully. Take off too much or take it off uneven and you have a new challenge.

Also, the rubber air lines came from Tom's Import Toys. Real heavy duty stuff.
On the cold air side I added a Atwood bilge blower made for boats.

The bilge blowers are pretty noisy. I added a $13 RioRand motor speed controller off Amazon so I can turn it down a little to decrease the noise.
 
Dale, thanks for the info on the ACDelco motor. I just ordered one a will report back when it's installed. I probably won't use it very often because it doesn't get cold here and I seldom need the defroster but it would be nice to have some more air flow if needed.
