From out of a melting snowbank was pulled an abandoned bicycle, then propped up by a mailbox and finally picked up by me.... It's a Royce Union, full suspension, mountain bike. a quick check online for info shows it's a Sears/Wal-Mart special. Generally accepted by true bikers as cheap junk, but overall liked by light duty riders.
the chain was rusty, cables sticky, and the front wheel was really messed up. The rear tire is flatspotted, the large sprocket on the crank was bent up, and it had been spray-painted gold.
I've been able to fix everything but the tires and rim just by cleaning, lubing, and adjusting stuff. Some enamel reducer made quick work of the "paint job" and now it's the original green-black that it came in.
To top it off, one of my buddies just dropped off 2 brand new tires and inner tubes for me. Now all I need is a 26" front rim with the quick release hub, and I'm in business.
I've got time.. My other bike, a Specialized Hard Rock is all ready for the riding season.
That, And I gotta get me a roof rack setup for my Bimmer. Lots of goodies online, but I'm broke right now. I keep watching craigslist, and the paper. Maybe I can find a swap. I got a bunch of photo developing equipment.......and TR4a parts...

have a wha???

Yeah, Paul... named "Ben"!!

Sorry Ben, my mind wanders at times. I have a hard time imagining me using pedals that don't operate something that uses gasoline.

hehehe... When I was a kid, I lived on my bike. In my teen years I got a Takara 12 speed racing bike second hand from my friend ( I still have it). That began my longer journeys on pedal power. We'd ride 15 miles to go swimming, or 10 miles into town, or once even 30 miles to go camping.
I know hard core guys that 20 miles is just a typical ride, but at 14 that was freedom!and a big deal and what seemed a huge distance.
I put away bikes for many years having the same attitude, (Motors are required)
But last summer I got a really nice mountain bike (again, second hand) and have refound the joy of pedaling to wherever I want.
And I need the excercise.
We've got a realtivly new trail, built on an old railroad bed, that begins not far from my house, and runs all the way to Seneca Lake in Watkins (about 25 miles) I plan to ride that trail more than once this summer.

In my dumpster diving days, I came across a dumpster behind a sports chain store. They were clearing out old inventory by throwing it away. Picked up 5 new, still in the box, mountain bikes. Some assembly required. As luck would have it, I was in the p/u and so rescued all.

Now that's a find!!!

Don't get me wrong, I rode a bike from 6 years old until I got a drivers license and the I went to motorcycles along with the cars.

I have a great mountain bike hanging in the garage, but I don't have enough time for the TR6, let alone to ride a bike.

It's much the same here, but my version is, "I dont have enough money to do anything on the TR2, so I found a hobby I can afford for now" hehehehe
