School's Out! Just had to say it!

I really cannot figure out where this year went. I still have about two or three weeks of work left to do and today was the last day for the kids. I will say that I regret this year coming to an end. I had a great time and loved my classes (something a lot of teachers cannot say after 18 years in the classroom)
My kids put together a "final project" for me of our camp out in mid-May. I posted it on our website.
Planet Earth T.E.N.T. event

Terri - what a great show! Those kids sure looked like they were having a great time; anytime I could get my kids *out* of the classroom I felt they were learning more than they'd ever get from books and lectures.

One of the "big" events: when I took them to perform at a local nursing home. Eye opening experience.

Say - what does T.E.N.T. mean? Maybe I missed it in the slideshow?

Thanks for posting that.
Tom

You know, I don't have any idea. That's what the state park calls the program. They have a special area set aside in a large field by a pond, bring in tents, chairs, supplies (basically everything you need) including 3 park rangers and volunteers who do the teaching. All I did was put the kids on the bus and take pictures. The park interpreters pretty much ran the show. The kids set up camp, prepared and cooked the meals and cleaned up after themselves. Definitely the easiest field trip I've ever participated in!!!

On another note, got this today froma friend...

This was interesting. You got my curiosity going, so I went to the Arkansas State Parks website, and found that Pinnacle has *several* of these "T.E.N.T" events scheduled. They provided the tent; you provide everything else. Great idea.

But they never explain what the T.E.N.T stands for. Maybe "Tourist Expecting No Tent"?

Edit: This just in -

Generally, "TENT Event" is used to mean a general "tentING event," but I believe it technically stands for:

Traveling
Educational
Nature
Trailer

It's really just a trailer with lots of camping, tenting, and programming equipment in it that is shared by all of the 52 state parks.

Hope this helps,

Ah - feel much better now!

Thanks for the info. I asked last weekend at another nearby state park if they also have T.E.N.T. events and was told they have the trailer, but have never used it. Hmmm....maybe I can start a trend here. LOL!!! Petit Jean State Park is only about an hour or so from here and would also make a great site for a campout. As a matter of fact, there are about 20 different parks within an hours drive from LR and I could just start working on maybe two a year...ooh, look what you started!
