SCCA OVR Autumn Classic from Mid-Ohio

Was a good weekend until sunday morning.

Qualifying 1 was good with relatively clean track, but it was slick, couple really nice slides as I was working the car out. Can't remember what I turned, it was bad, but not great.

Race 1 - started outside row 1 with Helm (E-Production MR2) on pole. I knew I was a sitting duck with all the cars around me having about double the horsepower of the ReK Racing/Rascal Racing Spitfire, but **** it felt good to see almost the entire field behind me. Helm led the field to the green REALLY REALLY Slowly...I think about 3500 rpm for me in first at which point I knew it was going to be worse than I thought. We went and prelude (EP) and the opel gt (F-Production) got me in 1, I got the prelude back but then had to get by the opel which was easier said than done. certainly in a straight line that car is fast! I think it took 3 or 4 laps, in the middle of the Pintaric (GT-Lite) came through and got me and the opel...once I got the opel I just tried to put together good consistent laps. Put in a 1:44.3 (still need to find a second). Was running consistent 44/45's and I caught Helm and made the pass which he let go pretty easy. After that I was turning 44's the rest of the race...The hoosier radials were the same at lap 13 as they were at the start.

Qualifying Race - the weather was iffy. I chose to go out on rains, Pintaric chose to stay in the paddock. I started on Pole which was a pretty cool feeling. I knew the MR2 would get me on the start...and he made the right decision on tires so I had nothing for him. This was on the Pro course with no chicane. Rains turned out to be the WRONG decision. I figure I might as well burn them up. Turned 48's on the rain tires as there was no grip...pretty much 4 wheel slides every where. Then on Lap 6 KERBLAM-0. Looks like #4 exhaust valve decided the head and the stem wanted to part ways. game over.

it was fun...see you all next year!

Aaron -

That's a shame....I hope you got in a lot of good racing this season. Nice video, Mid-Ohio looks like a fun track. I leave for Road America in a week for the ELVF. I was there 2 years ago and had a great time, the 4-mile track really suites the big Healey. The only downside is the 3-day haul there and back.
