Scarred 1500 Cam

Hi guys,

I am raiding over from the Spridget forum and hoping some generous Spitfire expert can help me. I am in the middle of an engine rebuild on a 79 Midget, which, as you may know, has the same motor as the Spit of that year.

My cam journals are pretty scarred. There are no cam bearings on this motor—just polished holes in the block. And those are pretty scarred, too.

Does anyone have any experience with this problem? How did you solve it?

Thanks,

Morris

Fortunately I have not (yet) had the problem on our 1979 Spit, but I am told you can have the block line bored and bearings fitted. This is also done on the TR6.

I hope someone with personal experience of the problem can give specifics.
Simon.

To solve, you use a new cam I would guess. Make sure the block isn't scored too. You can do the cam bearing thing, but must come up with the appropriate cam anyway. Most folks say that's the way to go, but others say only if you are racing. I don't really know anything.
