I knew the technology has been around for a long time. Just never seen a commercial for it on TV until last evening.

One small step for man. Next will be "Clone yer Grandma!"

Just because you CAN do something, doesn't mean you should.
Any bets on if they are just scammers and just deliver $10,000 mutts?

I wonder if people know that they would get something that looks exactly like their pet, but does not resemble it in temperament, intelligence, etc.

The commercial said $1600. Going to their website, I find that $1600 will only get you preserved genetic material. The actual cost to get a living dog is $50,000, cat is $35,000. The company is Viagen in Texas and they've been around for a while so I'm guessing they aren't scamming. Barbara Streisand was a client of their's and wrote this about two dogs she had cloned “Each puppy is unique and has her own personality,” she writes in the Times. “You can clone the look of a dog, but you can’t clone the soul.”

Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with the thought of cloning at all. Just marking the "entrance into mainstream". Part of my joy is learning how a new companion will be different yet still endearing.

I'll only be interested once they add dinosaurs.

They don't usually from what I read. Like those who talk about cloning Michael Jordan and having the greatest basketball team ever with 6 or 7 of him. Or other athletes or great minds. Environment determines what they decide to do with themselves and pushing unique individuals, clones or not, in specific directions almost always fails. Imagine 5 identical to the original Michaels all saying, I have no interest in that game I want to do something intellectual or musical or just not be in the public eye.
