Saw a Dodge Caliber today

When the Edsel came out, everyone berated it......now it's a desirable classic. I bet the same thing happens to the Aztec (though personally, I'd pass on Edsels and Aztecs). The Subaru Tribeca is another car with "polarizing" styling that I bet will be collectable at some point (but not by me).

I think there are other current cars that are "future classics" (though I don't like all of them).
Probably Miatas (especially after most of them get wrecked in Spec-Miata racing). Also the Pontiac Solstice (and Saturn Sky).
The big, rear-drive Chevy Impala SS cars (built until around '97) already have a pretty good following.
The Viper, the Boxster, the Honda S2000, maybe the Toyota Yaris and the Audi S4 (and S6) the new MINI (especially the convertible), 'Vettes, the Jag XK-8, the new Beetle Cabriolet....maybe others I can't think of right now.

The little Rabbit pickup was a slow seller in the 70s.....now they're a hot item with collectors.

And I don't care how well they are made: the Honda Ridgline is too painful to look at, let alone buy (sorry to any of you who own one). I'll take a Chevy, Ford or Dodge anyday. I'd bet that they'll change the Ridgline styling soon (and then the current ones will be rare and collectable at some point).

On my Subaru forum some of the people there that own Legacies also have the Tribeca. Most people on that board agree (myself included) that it is a beautifully appointed, comfortable, well built vehicle with decent styling (for a minivan), except for the nose. The front end treatment kills it for most of the people that would consider buying one, it's so bad it completely outweights all the other positives on the vehicle. The wife and I looked at one the last time we were at the Subaru dealership, the wife said she wouldn't be caught dead driving something with a grill like that on it, no matter how nice inside. The interior is awesome, it's got a really cool Starship Enterprise kind of dash. Sadly, the hideous beak on the 'beca has become Suraru's new corporate front end. The Impreza/WRX/STi got it on this years new models (although toned down a bit and not quite as awkward) and word is the Legacy/Outback will get it in another year or two.

If someone came up with a nice looking front end replacement
for the new Subarus,they could probably make a killing.

With a few exceptions (as has already been mentioned) I don’t see a lot of the newer vehicles having a following like you see today. Will the Aztek ever be collectible? Unless & until there’s a “Museum of Bad Auto Design” – I seriously doubt that anyone will be clamoring for a specimen for their collection! Likewise can be said about every minivan, crossover and to a lesser extent SUVs.

Sorry, but I have a hard time envisioning a future with Aerostar, Voyager & Lumina APV Owners Clubs and the like show & shines dedicated to the people movers. But should I be wrong - I hope someone will be kind & shoot me dead. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif

Bout the only “crossover” vehicle I’ve driven in recent memory that I actually liked was the Chrysler Pacifica. Well appointed & roomy (6-7 passengers) leather interior. A pretty powerful 3.5L drive train and handles the twistys as well as any sedan in its price range. And while its still a minivan in my book – with it’s low profile (for a minivan) it isn’t all that bad to look at when stacked against others X-Overs on the market.

But while it might make an interesting foot note in a hundred years still I don’t see the Pacifica or any minivan ever being a true “collector vehicle”.

The Tribeca front ain't that bad... looks like an unside down Alfa grille - hehehe. The front/grille I don't like is the one on the VW in those unpimp your ride commercials... Could they have made the apparent opening any bigger?

About the mitsu. Suv, the endeavor...I had a rental last summer, because the rental company was out of cars so they upgraded me free.....Aside from being ugly, it guzzled gas and felt akward to drive. We took it up to my wifes hometown, the small town of Sturgeon Falls Ontario...Put it though it's paces on the gravel roads and something in the front suspension started rattleing like crazy....I think it must have been the only one in Town though because it got a lotta looks, even the odd "What kinda 'wheels' are those?" from the locals.
