The air dam on my Telluride's sun roof broke. I found a "how to" video on YT detailing how to replace and re-align the sunroof air dam. I decided to buy the new air dam and try replacing it my self. It wasn't too terribly difficult, and I was lucky in that the sunroof didn't need to be reprogramed when I was done. I did have to remove the glass to fix the rail in the back which had popped out of the track when the air dam broke (so the window would not close.

Now it all works like new.

I had to call the KIA service place to schedule my son's Sportage for some recall work and while I had them one the phone, I asked about what the cost would be to replace that air dam and realign the sunroof. Glad I was sitting down - The guy said it was $577 plus tax, and that was labor only!

You Tube to the rescue again!

My sister was stopped under a bridge and a piece of ice came through her sunroof (Venza) they very nearly wrote off the car due to the repair costs.

DIYers do save a lot of $$s. Youtube is also one of my first and favorite reference site. Current project is replacing some window trim facia that's dry rotted. And I get to by another tool - the multitool is handy to make tight precision cuts for this fiddly job.

I've seen reports that say the average cost of repairs for modern cars is up 2-3 time or more what the same repair would have cost a few years ago due to import parts cost and complexity with all the tech cars now have.

My wife had a 318i with a sunroof. I was sitting in the backseat in the middle. As we drove under the overpass, something hit me in the chest. Something wet and stinky. Dang pigeon had SUPERB timing or got EXCEPTIONALLY lucky. No repair costs but I did have to change my shirt. :D

Well, as long as we're telling funny sunroof stories, there was the time SWMBO and I were headed off to church one winter morning, and it being a nice clear morning, I decided to open the sunroof. I forgot that the roof was still full of snow.

when my son was about 5 we were driving in the winter and he asked me to open the sunroof. I explained there was snow on it. He zipped up his coat, tightened his shoulders and said - go for it. (we didn't)

Our go to church story is not a sunroof story but a mug of coffee that I put on the roof - and it was still there when we got to church - so I finished it.

My "coming back from church" story: Just a couple years ago, we were driving back from church on Rt66. There I was, enjoying the nice sunny morning on the narrow two-lane road, when all of the sudden Mary lets out a blood-curdling scream that startled me out of my skin! I thought a semi was about to hit us and was swiveling my head all around to see what was about to hit us!

Turns out a mouse had found its way into the car and was casually crawling across Mary's shoulders, then across her lap!
