Sand paper by the disc?

Started pondering today how people are getting ripped off buying sand paper at their local auto parts store for 5 discs for 5-10 bucks. Often times these same places like ie Napa sell a whole roll of the same stuff or a auto body grade better sandpaper for 50 disc roll or box for $25-$40.
Buy a high quality sand paper and save time vs a cheap paper and use more time and allot more paper.

I purchase sandpaper and grinder discs at Smart Shoppers in Louisville Ky. Its a mail order deal and there is a $50 minimum order. Local vendor prices are a bit steep for me. They have other products as well. Might just save a few pennies and get a decent paper. Bob

Also should mention Harbor Freight has a good deal on those small cut off wheels.

One of my clients owns a shop that makes custom sanding belts and discs, saw blades (circular and band). He lets me go through whats left after they punch disc's out. High quaility paper, cloth actually. Have to work with some strange shapes sometimes, but I haven't bought any sandpaper in years.

how do places like auto body supply stores compare in cost? I've not ever been in one.

If you go in the store in a suit you'll pay more.

You might save 1/3 to 1/2 on the cost of some items. They tend to sell more volume of say sand paper and related supplies.

I've been buying Mirka products over the last few years. Considerable savings over the 3M equivalent. Only doing "onesies" now and only personal cars. If we still had the shop we would likely be using Mirka for that as well. I'd love to buy American but with money as tight here as it is, the wallet comes first.
