Salvaging an A windshield

LBC fans,

I have, what appears to be, the original winshield glass for my '57 A. It is not cracked nor is it pitted. It is discolored...

Anyone have any experience in salvaging a windshield in this condition???

I am all ears... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

How would you describe the colour? Milky around the edges? If so, it's delaminating and there's nothing you can do. Common in MGBs, don't honestly know if it happens with the 'A.

Can not salvage. Air gets into the center section that is made of plastic over the years or maybe it is UV that causess it.

Derek and Jack,

Thanks for the comments... not what I wanted to hear, but thanks anyway.

Any suggestions for a source??? Moss is not offering one currently.

Not being an A kind of guy I have no clue, however must be lots of places that sell windshelds.

Jack,

Thanks anyway... I am sure I will find one... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

A general comment...

With all that I have replaced during my frame off, I think the only original part left is a left rear taillight lens..

Ooppps, I just dorpped it... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Well there goes that...Now it's ALL aftermarket. I think I have just bought a whole new car, in parts, from Moss /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif

Steve,

I will call Scarborough Faire for a new windscreen glass...

Thanks,

Rob,

Are you going to Scarbouro Faire?

Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme......

I think that they are far away from my home... 500 miles, 500 miles, 500 miles, 500 miles, you can hear the whistle blow 500 miles.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/nopity.gif

So, OK, couldn't help myself... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

I am going to call them. I do not know yet if they deliver... will advise. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

I'm not in the market for one myself, but it seems to me I've read about a batch of 'A windshields that are too thin.

Derek,

I am going to measure the thickness of my original and seek one that is close to that number... Thanks for the heads-up

The glass should be 1/4" thick. Some replacements are only 3/16", which is not good. You will have installation issues with glass that thin.
