Sad News - PL Newman has passed away

just heard that on speed. A sad day for all

He was a terrific actor and a really nice person to boot. I may have to go rent some of his movies this weekend.

A sad day. My dad and I saw him race when I was probably 6 or 7 at the old Mid-America Raceway in St Louis. Fantastic guy and my son has been to his "Hole-in-the-wall" camp for several years now. First class operation from a first-class guy.

One of the true greats, as an actor, racer, and all-around guy. They never made many like him.

Sad, but let us remember him as he was. Instead of mourning him, let us celebrate his life.

He lived life to the fullest, in his own way. A way that positively affected thousands... By his own choice and not for any rewards...

A GREAT MAN!!

Here's to ya! Paul......

:iagree:

Yes, a neat guy. He lived a full and decent life.

I have stood next to him at Lime Rock driver's meetings. He was down-to-earth and low key. And a wonderful humanitarian.

I always buy his food products because I like the concept of <span style="font-style: italic"> Newman's Own</span>....but also, they taste good!

Some of you may have seen this (below) elsewhere....I got it over a month ago, so I knew he didn't have long...

<span style="font-style: italic">"Wednesday, August 13, 2008
Lime Rock Park was closed down for an hour and
half today to honor Paul Newman. He was attended
by his family, close friends, Skip Barber, mechanics
on his race team, and those who happened to be at
the track. PLN toured the track in his Corvette race
car with his Buick V8 powered Volvo station wagon
following. He had come to say goodbye. Diagnosed
with terminal cancer he is not expected to live beyond
September. Race driver, actor, humanitarian, family
man and friend. They did not come any better." </span>

:grouphug: He will be missed. Indeed an honorable man and great entertainer/racer.

I've been a huge fan of his since I saw him race at VIR in 1971. I had a pit pass and stood within a few feet of him in the pits near his Bob Sharp Datsun that he drove there that year. I later saw him race at other venues, too. Always nice and accommodating to everyone.

I didn't meet him, but I had a couple of friends who were racing who got near him. A totally down-to-earth guy by all accounts, and friendly.

Not many mulitmillionaire Hollywood movie stars are like that. On top of everything, he was a highly skilled actor.

There isn't anyone else like him today in Hollywood, and I don't think there ever will be.

RIP, Paul.

Nial,

You just had to post that - it hit me after reading it.
A GREAT Man!One of the last of the "real people" actors.
We pitted accross from him at PIR in Portland,Oregon.I
was impressed that the racers left him alone - treated him
just like anyone else.I think that he appreciated that.
A fellow racer summed it up - "If he wants to talk to-
- us,he'll come over to our pit.Otherwise, just let him have his
privacy".He got respect because he could race - not because he
was "somebody famous"!
One of my heros.....RIP.

"Raindrops keep fall'n on my head".....a few raindrops fell on me as I made my short motorcycle ride into downtown LA this morning and I said thank you Paul - for everything. If you ever had an opportunity to meet him then you know he was always accommodating, down to earth and had a great sense of humor!!!
Via Con Dios Paul.
